7 Purrfect Reasons To Play With Your Cat Regularly

Does your cat sometimes get the ‘zoomies’ and start racing around or playing with a random object, like a bottlecap? Our feline pals can be quite frisky! As it turns out, playing with your kitty is one of the best things you can do for her. A Bend, OR vet lists some reasons why in this article.

Exercise

As you’ve probably noticed, cats are quite sleepy. Fluffy’s napping obsession is cute, but it’s not exactly great for her waistline. A fun round of Catch the Red Dot or Pounce on the Feather Toy will help keep your drowsy pet fit and healthy, and ward off obesity.

Entertainment

Cats are very curious and playful, and they really do need entertainment to thrive. Your furball will get restless and uneasy with nothing to do all day! After all, even the sleepiest kitty can’t snooze all the time. Playing is a great way to keep your furry buddy amused, and keep her from getting bored.

Bonding

When you hold a toy for your kitty, she’ll know that you’re doing something for her benefit. (Fluffy seems to think a lot of things we do are for her benefit, but that’s another topic.) This is a wonderful way to bond with your pet, and make her feel loved!

Curb Kitty Shenanigans

Is your feline buddy a frisky, four-legged bundle of mischief? Playtime will help your kitty burn off that excess energy. Afterwards, she’ll probably be tired, and hopefully more interested in curling up on your lap than in pouncing on your toes.

Build Confidence

Do you have a scaredy-cat? Playing may help Fluffy gain a bit of confidence. Landing a tricky butt wiggle/run/pounce/roll/meow combination is kind of like the kitty equivalent of a shy child scoring a goal.

Help Kitties Bond

Cats aren’t always thrilled to find themselves with feline roommates. If Fluffy and Mittens aren’t getting along, dual play sessions may help break the ice. Just be sure to pay both kitties equal attention.

It’s Fun

Playing is great fun for Fluffy. It’s also a good way for her to unleash her inner kitten. Of course, kitty playtime can be pretty entertaining for you, too. Cats are absolutely adorable when they’re feeling frisky!
