Our Careteam

Laurie’s passion for the well-being of animals was evident ever since she was a little girl growing up in the Oregon Valley. She was constantly bringing home lost or wild critters to try and help them feel better. Laurie’s fascination with the world of animal care simply never quit. Now, she’s been a veterinary professional for more than two decades!

Laurie started working as a Veterinary Assistant at a large- and small-animal practice in Woodburn, Oregon in 1998. When the time came to work a little closer to home, she transferred to another clinic and explored the reception, Veterinary Technician, and kennel positions. Next, Laurie moved to Central Oregon in 2005 and took a job at a clinic in Redmond before joining the Westside Pet Hospital family in 2016.
As a member of the hospital team, Laurie is especially passionate about the clinic’s integration of natural and alternative modalities to help pets feel their best. She’s also fond of being the very first face that pet owners see as they enter the clinic—for Laurie, nothing beats helping all visitors to the clinic feel welcomed right off the bat.

Laurie’s interests away from the office include sewing and crafting, attending church, horseback riding, and spending quality time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and pets. She has a grown son and daughter, as well as two wonderful grandchildren, and she and her husband share their home with several animal companions. They have two dogs—a Border Collie named Cody and a Border Collie/Heeler mix named Kayt—as well as an affectionate cat named Melvyn. The animal portion of the family is rounded out by two horses, a gelding and a mustang.
Kiley Conery
Certified Veterinary Technician
Kiley can’t remember a time when she wasn’t fascinated by everything to do with the earth’s creatures. She’s always suspected that a career spent bettering the lives of animals would suit her well. For Kiley, helping pets to stay happy and healthy as a veterinary professional simply makes sense! She’s a Certified Veterinary Technician here at Westside Pet Hospital.

Kiley grew up in Pendleton and Fossil, Oregon, and moved to Bend in the summer of 2013 to enroll in the Veterinary Technician program at Central Oregon Community College. She graduated in 2016, and signed on here at the hospital shortly afterward. Kiley has been a part of the clinic family for more than four years and looks forward to continuing to help the area’s pets live the happiest, healthiest lives possible! She has a special passion for dental cleaning work, and she also loves to dote on new puppies and kittens.

Outside of work, Kiley likes spending time with her family and pets, traveling, and collecting. She shares her life with two loveable and loyal Boxers, Mickey Mouse and Dexter Morgan.
Katie Tafoya
Veterinary Assistant
Katie has adored animals ever since her earliest memories. She was always the one in her family who shared a special bond with the earth’s creatures, and she knew early on that she wanted to work with pets professionally in the future. Katie’s dream never wavered! Now, she’s a member of Westside Pet Hospital’s skilled and compassionate Veterinary Assistant team.

Katie is a Bend native and started working as a Kennel Assistant at a local animal hospital when she was entering her junior year of high school. She was trained on-the-job to become a Technician, and she’s been working with animals professionally ever since. Now, Katie has been working with animals hands-on for nearly nine years and is proud to continue her veterinary journey as a member of the Westside Pet Hospital family!
Around the clinic, Katie loves to perform blood draws and nail trims. Her favorite part of every shift, though, is getting to meet new pet owners and their adorable companions.

At home, Katie and her husband share their lives with three dogs. Ohana is a French Bulldog who was Katie’s very first canine companion; Mason the American Staffordshire terrier doesn’t let his older age slow him down; and Stormi the American Bulldog loves everyone and anything, especially playing outdoors and going on hikes.

Dr. Shaw took time to thoroughly explain after-care to me when I had both my dogs in for a check-up and teeth cleaning. He is so knowledgeable and easy to talk to. MacKenzie was so helpful and also took extra time to discuss concerns I had about the pups. Thank you both for making me (and my doggie family) feel welcome and important.

We have been very pleased with Westside Pet Hospital since we've been taking our precious little Maltese Willow there for annual check up, vaccinations, and teeth cleaning since 2015 (new to Bend). Dr. Shaw is great with Willow and is very knowledgeable about pet health issues. We love that he runs a teeth cleaning special every year during the month of February (National Pet Dental Health month). During her teeth cleaning appointment, Willow had her teeth cleaned, her nails clipped, her ears cleaned, blood work, and she came home with a baggy of dental treats. They took very good care of her while she was there for 7 hours. We got a call from Kiley the next day to check on Willow to see how she was doing. Everyone at Westside Pet Hospital is great and cares very much about animals, especially their patients! We highly recommend Westside Pet Hospital.

We drove down from the Portland area to have gold bead implants done on our Puppy for hip dysplasia. The staff was great and Dr Shaw was very kind. This was yesterday. This morning our puppy got up from bed and I can already see a difference in her limp. She is happier and has more energy than I have seen in a long time. That is one day! I am so happy to see her so happy. Can't wait to see how she continues to improve. Thank you, Dr Shaw!!! :)

My 5 kitties (between 6 and 12 years old) would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Shaw and staff! We've been with Westside for more than 2 1/2 years since we moved from Texas and have had anything from yearly checkups/vaccinations to dental cleanings and thyroid cancer treatments at the clinic. The staff is friendly, the facility super clean and relaxing. Us kitties appreciate the separate kitty and dog areas. Dr. Shaw has very good "kitty manners" and is extremely knowledgeable and patient. We really appreciate that our appointments are always on schedule with very little waiting time and we always feel our 5 babies are in capable hands. Laurie at the front desk is so nice and kind! Five stars all the way!!!Thank you guys (and ladies)!!! Marita S.
