Diagnostics

Has your pet been acting unusual?  Are you concerned that an illness or injury may be to blame?

When people get sick or hurt, they go to the doctor, explain their symptoms and receive the appropriate care. With pets, it’s not always this straightforward. Because our animal friends can’t speak, they can’t tell us when something is bothering them. What’s more, many pets are able to hide the signs of illness for long periods of time. All the while, the condition is able to develop and worsen.

In cases such as these, we rely on veterinary diagnostics to get the answers we need. These tools and technologies allow us to conduct an in-depth evaluation of your pet’s health, both externally and internally. By gathering a complete picture of your pet’s condition, we’re better able to diagnose and treat health problems in a timely manner. Faster diagnosis of illness and injury can vastly improve the chances of a positive outcome for your loved one.

In-House Laboratory

Westside Pet Hospital features an on-site diagnostic laboratory, which makes it fast and efficient to run a wide variety of tests. In many cases, we can have results within just minutes. This means we can have a treatment plan in place before you even leave the exam room. The ability to run blood work, urinalysis and other tests in-house is especially beneficial for critical cases when time is of the essence. Laboratory work is also available for routine health screenings as part of your pet’s wellness care.

Advanced Imaging

In some instances, a physical exam and lab work simply aren’t enough to effectively assess your pet’s condition. That’s why we also offer advanced imaging services. These tools, such as x-rays and ultrasound, allow us to look inside your pet’s body and learn precisely what’s ailing him or her. We can use imaging to evaluate the bones and internal organs, identifying injuries, diagnosing illness and determining its severity. Images can be analyzed by our doctors in real-time or shared electronically with specialists if necessary.

If your pet has been acting a bit out of sorts lately, don’t take chances. Give the experienced professionals at Westside Pet Hospital a call right away. We’ll get to the bottom of the problem and get your best friend back on the path to good health again.

My 5 kitties (between 6 and 12 years old) would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Shaw and staff! We've been with Westside for more than 2 1/2 years since we moved from Texas and have had anything from yearly checkups/vaccinations to dental cleanings and thyroid cancer treatments at the clinic. The staff is friendly, the facility super clean and relaxing. Us kitties appreciate the separate kitty and dog areas. Dr. Shaw has very good "kitty manners" and is extremely knowledgeable and patient. We really appreciate that our appointments are always on schedule with very little waiting time and we always feel our 5 babies are in capable hands. Laurie at the front desk is so nice and kind! Five stars all the way!!!Thank you guys (and ladies)!!! Marita S.

We have been very pleased with Westside Pet Hospital since we've been taking our precious little Maltese Willow there for annual check up, vaccinations, and teeth cleaning since 2015 (new to Bend). Dr. Shaw is great with Willow and is very knowledgeable about pet health issues. We love that he runs a teeth cleaning special every year during the month of February (National Pet Dental Health month). During her teeth cleaning appointment, Willow had her teeth cleaned, her nails clipped, her ears cleaned, blood work, and she came home with a baggy of dental treats. They took very good care of her while she was there for 7 hours. We got a call from Kiley the next day to check on Willow to see how she was doing. Everyone at Westside Pet Hospital is great and cares very much about animals, especially their patients! We highly recommend Westside Pet Hospital.

He spends an incredible amount of time with you and your pet, is thorough and gives you a lot of information. I love the fact that he uses standard veterinary care as well as being trained in accupuncture and alternative medicine. The practice is also spotless! Our Bernese Mountain dog and our 2 cats are patients and they are quite pleased to see Dr. Shaw. I highly recommend Westside Pet Hospital!
